Kathleen Armour Walker
As the owner of
Tennessee Pewter Company, Kathleen Armour Walker is reviving pewter
among young brides and making Tennessee Pewter Company the South’s
Pewter Company. As an innovator of and the authority on fine
hand-made pewter items, she is known for her ability to make
customers feel like they are an expert on their own pewter ware and
she help sets the finest of tables in the South.
Influenced by her Southern upbringing and a belief in the importance
of heritage, Kathleen Armour Walker has always been fascinated with
antiques and heirlooms, picking out her silver pattern at 8 years of
age. At the same time she was preparing for her wedding, Kathleen
Armour Walker stumbled upon Tennessee Pewter Company in Grand
Junction, Tennessee. Her wedding party gifts were purchased and hand
engraved. At that point she was hooked on pewter. Her new groom
started her Tennessee Pewter collection. Now as the owner of
Tennessee Pewter Company, she is the designer for the company’s new
items. Among her peers she is known for her staunch traditionalism
and formality. Kathleen Armour Walker collects antique pewter pieces
to recreate in her shop. Kathleen finds being a female in the metal
industry gives her great insight on designing new products and what
women want on their tables. She was fascinated that men had owned
and operated Tennessee Pewter Company for 35 years. Her first order
of business was to create tableware that she would set at her own
table. She started building on 35 years of great craftsmanship and
today Tennessee Pewter Company thrives as the South’s Pewter
Company, taking care of some very famous customers and fine gift
shops throughout the region.
On the personal side Kathleen Armour Walker lives in Brownsville,
Tennessee with her husband, Daniel Hamilton, at College Hill in
their turn of the century home that was Dan’s great-aunt's. The home
is filled with their families’ antiques dating back to the early
1800’s. They are the proud parents of two Golden Pyrenees dogs, N.B.
Forrest and Natchez. If you visit the shop you will meet their furry
children. If you notice the building the Pewter Company is housed in
was built in the late 1800s. Along with being a pewter expert she is
a renovation specialist for old buildings. Kathleen is also active
in the Junior League of Memphis, North Delta Phi Mu Alumni Chapter,
Delta State University Alumni Association, Mississippi State
University Alumni Association, University of Tennessee West Star
Leadership Alumni, and Haywood County Humane Society.
